Arguing with Christine O’Donnell

Got this video from here.

My goodness.  It’s absolutely amazing that Christine O’Donnell is her party’s nominee for Senator of Delaware.  She didn’t know that the first amendment separates Church and State, and she argues “intelligent” design as a valid theory that children should learn in school, based on local school decision-making.  If you listen to the video above, the students erupt into laughter after her comment about church and state.  I have to hand it to Chris Coons.  He remained calm and respectful despite having to argue with someone who clearly doesn’t have the credentials or knowledge to be at the same table.  He also successfully defended fact (not even his views) without getting derailed by her Palin-esque interruptions.  If the video gets taken down, see an AP article here.

Clarence Thomas’s Conservative Activist Wife

Clarence Thomas and his wife Virginia

Interesting article in the NY Times about Clarence Thomas’s wife and her activism for the far right Tea Party/Conservative movement.  Here you have a guy sitting on the highest bench, a guy who is supposed to be judging based on the Constitution, and his wife is raising money for a highly partisan cause:

Mrs. Thomas is the founder and head of a new nonprofit group, Liberty Central, dedicated to opposing what she characterizes as the leftist “tyranny” of President Obama and Democrats in Congress and to “protecting the core founding principles” of the nation.

Tea Party

28keli_ca1-articlelarge

Has everyone been following all the craziness with the Tea Party?  They only started last year.

I just learned through the New York Times that the very first Tea Party activist was a young 30 year old woman named Keli Carender.  That’s right, she was the very first in a growing list of protesters.  Her political philosophy is to have less government intervention in markets, and from the article, it seems that her very first political act was to try to get Senators to vote against the stimulus bill.  Thank God they didn’t listen to her.
