Alphas vs. Betas

The Alpha Asian had an interesting post on something that I have been meaning to blog about for a long time: Alpha vs. Beta strategies.  I specifically wanted to address this quote from him:

You just got to play up your strengths. I once watched a documentary on some birds. They showed a scene where two male birds were battling each other to see who would win the affections of a female. One male was protecting his woman, the other was challenging. While they were battling it out, another male sneaks up behind the female watching the fight and starts doing her. So as you can see, there’s no one way to succeed in life and love.

Effective, not Popular II

In my previous post, I mentioned the advice of being effective, not popular. In the post, I attached a picture of the sumo wrestler Asashoryu.

Check out the video above. Asashoryu is a very good example of effective-not-popular. Sumo is a traditional Japanese sport, one which is as much sport as tradition to the Japanese. When Asashoryu became the 68th Yokozuna (Grand Champion), he was the first Mongolian ever to attain the rank and the third non-Japanese yokuzuna after Akebono and Musashimaru, who are both Samoan. Currently, he is the only active yokozuna, along with Hakuho, who is also Mongolian. There have been no Japanese Yokozuna since Takanohana retired in 2003.
