The NY Times had an article about Energy Secretary Steven Chu’s  adjustment to Washington today.  He’s got a bumpy road ahead.  It’s hard for numbers guys to get used to the rough and tumble of debate.  It says:

Asked later what part of his job he liked the least, Dr. Chu said: “The fact that I’m constantly being told that I have to be careful what I say to the press and in public. I can’t speculate out loud anymore. Everything I say is taken with total seriousness.”

“His appointment should send a signal to all that my administration will value science,” Obama said during a Chicago news conference Monday. “We will make decisions based on facts, and we understand that the facts demand bold action.”

You’ve gotta love the force of this man’s words.

Real Life Jurassic Park

I never made a tribute to Michael Crichton, author of Jurassic Park, who passed away a few weeks ago.  He was a titan in the publishing industry, and sci fi fans around the world will miss his contributions. 

The NY Times today published an article about the Jurassic Park concept: Regenerating a Mammoth.  Crichton didn’t invent the concept, of course, but he made a good movie out of it.  This is exciting stuff.  I don’t know if they should do it because part of me still remembers the fighting dinosaurs in the movie, but it’s fascinating that they probably can.

Chinese Doctors in the News

Pretty amazing that you can watch ER and never see a Chinese doctor, but if you look at the news, they’re changing the world.  Just saw these on CNN.
