CaucAsian PlayBoy/Better CaucAsian Kid

Alec Greven

Alec Greven

I saw this video while doing research on another book (which I’ll talk about soon).  Nine year old Alec Greven wrote a book called “How to Talk To Girls.”  It reminded me a lot of those Asian Pick Up Artist conversations we had.

This nine year old wrote a book on how to pick up girls.  It’s cute and all…but why do parents let their kids do stuff like this?

PUA Schools and the Quest for Liberation

William and I have recently been debating on whether the Asian Playboy created his own system of pickup, and whether it’s right that Mystery, whom everyone agrees was Playboy’s original teacher, doesn’t get credit on the main section of APB’s website. I’m neither a Mystery nor an APB disciple, so on some level, it doesn’t make a difference to me. However, I think it’s an interesting question, both philosophically and practically. For William, it makes a difference since it’s how he defines himself and his activism. Is he an ABC guy, a Mystery Method guy, or will he do his own thing?  To further explore this question in depth, let’s look at martial arts.

Better Asian Man Emergency Podcast 10/08/08

So William posted podcast #2 from two night ago. You can see it here, or you can play it here:

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

This podcast topic immediately followed our first bigWOWO podcast, and the purpose was to question William over his linking to APB and Johnny. It’s the exact same crew: William, THX, Jason, James, and me.  The original question was framed as follows: If your site is an activist site, and if APB and Johnny promote sexist objectification of women, why do you link to them?

Better Asian Man: Jaehwan's Official Review

William, the Better Asian Man, surrounded by women

Many of you have probably seen my discussions of PUA, or Pick Up Artistry, for Asian American men.  You may have heard my Fallout Central podcast where I spoke with the Asian Playboy, the first person to racialize PUA for Asian Americans, or you may have seen my pieces on Asian American Male-ism here and here.  You may have also heard my interview with William from BetterAsianMan.com here.  Dialectic the Stealth MC, one of the owners of the Fighting 44s, wrote a piece endorsing Betterasianman here.  On the Fighting 44s, it has been a long battle, with lots of negativity and protest against William, even though one of the owners endorsed him.  I myself never endorsed BAM or the Asian Playboy, though I do respect both of them for the proactive steps they are taking in Asian American society.  Not only have I never endorsed them, but I’ve also recently been a bit quiet on the fallout that has taken place in the discussions over PUA, feminism, and sexism.

44s Teleconference Notes

I am reposting the following from the Fighting 44s with permission of the author THX1138. This was our first teleconference that was open to the general public; I publicized it on the 44s front page, and I told everyone that anyone could call in to talk with us. I didn’t give out the number, but I urged people to contact me and assured them that they could talk with me if they did so. Only two of the general membership responded for this particular teleconference, but I was greatly encouraged by the fact that they did. I sincerely believe that people can work things out when they talk. Talking is far better than writing when it comes to relationships and getting things done.

The Art of the Neg

For what I think is the very first time in history, the New York Times posted a video of two Asian Americans on their main wedding page. You can see the video here, and you can see the accompanying story here.

It’s a really sweet story.  What I thought was especially cute was the fact that because they’re both architects, they seem to notice a lot about structure and design.  You can hear it in their words.  For example, she talks about how he leads her into a chapel, and then she talks about the dome and structure.  It’s cute when people have such passion in what they do that it carries into everything they do and observe.  Great story, and props to the NY Times.
