Congratulations to the 2009-2010 Miss Asian Oregon Royal Court! The winners (with their titles and platforms) are:
Miss Luketan Somnasang, Miss Asian Oregon, Renewable Energy
Miss Gina Songkham, First Princess, Inspiring Young Asian Americans to Achieve
Miss Soohyun Park, Second Princess, Bridging Different Cultures
Luketan is an accountant with PGE, Gina is a college student, and Soohyun is a final year law student. All are serious about using their voices to make an impact. They did a phenomenal job presenting their ideas on the day of the competition, and it was truly amazing to see it all come together after so many weeks of preparation.
I got this e-mail from a disgruntled professor in California who is upset at the fact that we’re producing Miss Asian Oregon. I usually don’t post angry hate mail, but this one really got on my nerves because I really don’t get it–why do some professors, whose tenure protects them from the hills and valleys of the economy, take such an antagonistic view against the private sector? These people are teaching our future leaders. They feel soooo high and mighty because they get a guaranteed paycheck, and they take that arrogance and throw accusations against the rest of us who are trying to pay the mortgage and put food on the table for our kids. It baffles me.
Okay, time for an exciting announcement. I am the co-owner of the Miss Asian Oregon Pageant, and we will be having our inaugural event on October 10th, 2009 down in Salem. My partner Michelle is a former contestant/finalist and law firm owner, and we are totally psyched about doing this. Our emcee/organizer Liani is a prominent public official and lawyer activist. We now have all of our contestants, and we’re ready to rock the state of Oregon.
