I didn’t see the fight, but from all accounts I’ve seen, Manny won the fight on everyone’s scorecard but two of the three judges. Even the comments underneath most articles seem to unanimously say that Manny won–I’ve been reading through them, and I have yet to see even a single anonymous commenter claiming a Bradley victory.
The CompuBox punch count favored Pacquiao by a wide margin. CompuBox had Pacquiao connecting on 253 total punches – nearly 100 more than Bradley’s 159. Pacquiao also landed 190 power punches to Bradley’s 108.
Y’all know that I’m a staunch supporter of gay rights. I believe gay people have a right to be public with their love, and they deserve respect. I myself have given money to organizations that promote gay marriage. But we need to think rationally and assign credit/blame where it’s due. Which is why I can’t be part of the Manny Pacquiao bashing that other liberals have started ever since this stupid LA Weekly blog post came out: Manny Pacquiao says Gay Men Should Be ‘Put to Death.’
I couldn’t get out to see the Pacquiao-Margarito fight last night, but I read that it was total domination. Pacquiao hit Margarito so hard and so many times that one of his eyes was shut and the second out was about to be shut. Pacquiao actually backed off in the last couple rounds because he was afraid of permanently damaging Margarito. He came into the fight weighing nine pounds less than the allowable weight, and he still managed to dominate. Pacquiao is the first man to win championships in eight different weight classes. The only missing feat on his record is Floyd Mayweather, who has ducked the fight with all kinds of excuses and requirements.
Before this fight, I told my wife, “I think Manny Pacquiao may be biting off more than he can chew.” It was just a year and a half ago that he was a super-featherweight, and Cotto is a pretty big guy at a natural 147. He hits really hard too. I had the same sinking feeling that I had right before Lyoto Machida’s last fight (which Machida won by decision but probably shouldn’t have). Speed is good, but one hard punch can hurt. Numerous hard punches can really ruin a person’s day. I thought Pac-Man would go down. I was wrong. Absolutely wrong.
