Sammy Sosa, before and now

You know those skin whitening creams that some minorities use to whiten their skin?  Apparently there are health problems associated with them.  One woman used it, and it made her skin so thin that it bruised easily.  She also got acne.  Where was she getting this skin cream?

“I never read the labels,” Mrs. Ross said. Instead, she took her cues from friends, many of them, like her, from the West Indies. “Once somebody told me Fair & White was the one they were using, I’d go to the Korean store and ask for it,” she said.

I remember calling an Asian American friend when I first landed in Japan right after college.

“How do the guys here get anything done?” I asked him, jokingly.  “The women here are eye-blindly beautiful.  I’d have trouble keeping an eye on my work.”

AAM posted a link to this interview with blogger Jen Wang from Disgrasian and Aileen Duldulao, who recently authored a paper on Asian American female suicide.  US-born Asian American women, according to the report, have higher rates of suicide and higher rates of contemplation of suicide compared with other groups.  In the interview, available in both text and audio, Jen talks about her dealings with depression and thoughts of suicide.  It’s a good interview.

My partner Michelle is a former contestant/finalist and law firm owner, and we are totally psyched about doing this. Our emcee/organizer Liani is a prominent public official and lawyer activist. We now have all of our contestants, and we’re ready to rock the state of Oregon.

In our last podcast with Ed and Eric, we touched on the difference between Bruce, Jackie, and Jet.  Vu had brought up the difference between Jackie and Jet during the podcast, and we made numerous inquiries into the characters that the actors portrayed and their respective reputations.  For me, if we look at the three guys at the highest points of their careers, there’s always been a clear difference between the three men physically:
