Chael Sonnen Pleads Guilty to Money Laundering/UFC 125 Updates

Chael Sonnen got caught and pleaded guilty to steroid use after nearly beating Anderson Silva. He somehow managed to get his suspension reduced from a year to six months. But now…money laundering? According to the Oregonian, while working as a Realtor for John L. Scott, Sonnen had an escrow company write a $69,000 check to a plumbing company for work that was never done. That’s highly illegal. Sonnen pleaded guilty in federal court. I normally would be angry at Chael since I used to always cheer for his opponents, but I have to at least acknowledge that he’s bringing some excitement outside the cage to make up for the lay-and-pray snooze fest that he usually brings into the cage.
UFC Needs a Rule Change: Knees to the Head on Downed Opponents
I just noticed this article from USA Today–Chael Sonnen gets an immediate rematch against Anderson Silva.
This is crazy. While I can understand that Sonnen gave Silva more trouble than any other competitor, Silva beat Sonnen fair and square the first time, and therefore Sonnen should go back to the end of the line like everyone else. Immediate rematches should be reserved for close decisions, not decisive wins. When your top fighters only fight three times a year, it’s important that every prospective champion gets a shot.
UFC 117 Sonnen vs. Silva Recap

I finally called a winner correctly. Anderson Silva beat Chael Sonnen with just under two minutes left in the last round. Many were predicting a submission as Chael has had all of his losses by submission and is somewhat susceptible to triangles. I called for a KO because, well, I wanted to see a KO, but it just didn’t happen that way. Instead Anderson caught his with a triangle/arm bar combination.
UFC this past weekend, UFC next weekend (predictions)

This past weekend:
It looks like Takanori Gomi, the Fireball Kid, is back. He knocked out Tyson Griffin in the very first round this past Saturday with a vicious swinging haymaker. I seriously thought the guy was past his prime, but he was aggressive the whole time, and with a win over a top fighter like Griffin, he could soon be back in contention. I was very surprised by how hard he was going at it–I thought for sure that his confidence had been destroyed years ago.

Chael "Boring" Sonnen at UFC 109
Conversation at the bar where they were showing the UFC 109 match between Chael Sonnen and Nate Marquardt:
jaehwan: Go Marquardt! Get up! What are you doing?
old guy: Why are you cheering for Marquardt? Sonnen is from West Linn.
jaehwan: Sonnen is a Republican who was talking smack against Democrats when he was in UFC.
old guy: What? In that case, f#$k Chael Sonnen! Go Marquardt! Beat his a$$!
