Hurricane Sandy

I’ve been following friends on FB, and I spoke with my grandmother today. The reports and pictures coming out of New York are unbelievable. It sounds like most people are physically safe, but I wish the best to our readers on the East Coast. It’s definitely trying times. Looks like those who own single family homes and cars could sustain substantial damage. Be strong.

I’m just glad I’m not in Jersery right now. Death toll is a bit higher than expected too. Property damage is probably in the low 30 billions right about now too…

I live in NJ the following has happened: wind, wind, part of the apartment roof came off and is in the parking lot of the dinner next door (one car is damaged from this), power went out around 8pm Mon (we had a good run compared to my fb buddies), my college cancelled classes for Mon and Tues, leaking is going on the sixth floor, i live on the 5th, some windows were blown out around the apartment (for the longest time the window was coming from behind my unit heading towards NYC), 10:30am Tues and it’s still windy and a bit rainy can’t really complain, currently charging my phone via laptop power waiting for some batteries, i think, for the radio. Constant ambulances going by and streetlights are out (one accident so far). I guess I have no choice but to ‘take a book’ and get some hw done. Boredom.

Thanks for the update, Anna! It’s good to hear that you’re safe. As long as you’re safe, please enjoy the boredom and quiet.

    Hiya from DARK NJ!
I still don’t have power at home as of Sat. Night….. We lost it Monday night. Our business still does not have power. They say maybe not until Friday Nov 9th!

    The gas lines….. Ridiculous…..

Thankfully no damage to home or business…..just lots lost in revenue, but whatyagonnado?

I did get to watch DVD “the reagans” with all my free time. Eerily, the 1980 election and Reagan’s speech at the debate then sounds like today’s election and speeches.

  8. bigWOWO says:

Oh, wow! Thanks so much for checking in, Linda! Sorry to hear that it’s so bad.

November 9th? Wow, that’s insane. Well, let’s hope they get it up sooner. Chris Christie is doing an amazing job taking care of the state, and I hope they get everything fixed really soon.

    Bryon,

Now you will know why being an alumnus of a prestigious institution can make a whole lot of difference in your life.

I was at my alma mater charging my cellphone and laptop the day after the storm. They had a backup power generator for the library in case of emergencies. I was able to check my email and browse the internet, while everyone else in my building had to scramble elsewhere when the phone and power lines were out for almost a week.

Meanwhile, the CUNY schools in Manhattan were converted to homeless shelters, where low income folks (mostly Blacks and Hispanics) were camping out and receiving public assistance when it comes to food and other amenities.

Columbia University was serving gourmet meals from fancy caterers to its students and anyone affiliated with the school. I wasn’t there, but just telling you how being a privileged person can make your life easier and more enjoyable in difficult situations such as this.

  10. Chr.. says:

People like to shit on Asians even when it comes to a Hurricane Storm. The media thinks price gouging in Chinatown is a problem.

“I wasn’t there, but just telling you how being a privileged person can make your life easier and more enjoyable in difficult situations such as this.”

    My God, this is ridiculous.

  12. Chr.. says:

    @ Byron

    “My God, this is ridiculous”.

How so? Many people with money stayed in power generated hotels and shopped in places like Whole Foods during the blackout. Many of the high end restaurants were also opened using their own generated power and they were packed with people. Of course these businesses were savvy and knew this ahead of time. Those with less means, of course wouldn’t have the opportunity to enjoy any of these activities.

In regards to the schools again, I assume CUNY and the community colleges here in the city didn’t called out their alumni to see if any of them needed help after the storm. And if they did, it wouldn’t be anything like that of Columbia, where they were serving fancy meals and allowing people to charge their phones and laptops without any restrictions.

Do I sound like an unsympathetic elitist? The Sandy storm aftermath really brought out the stark differences between the haves and have nots in New York City.

What else is he going to do with his time? Date white girls? Get shunned by other posters on this board who he tried to make friends with? Forget about dating a white girl, he should try to make any kind of friend somewhere, anywhere.

Of course he’s going to mention the benefits of going to an elite College. It’s all he has to hang his hat on. What else is he going to brag about? The many women calling him for dates all the time?

When did I ever try to make friends with posters here? Everyone here hides under the banner of anonymity and wouldn’t be want to be seen in real life by others who come here. If you read all my posts, I never express any remorse about NOT being able to date White girls. All I ‘m saying is that AMs for the most part have no chance with most non-Asian women. This of course doesn’t include Black women, but that’s not what we are talking about.

You wanted to meet with Urban but he shunned you like the many attractive white women that do all the time in NY City.

Ah, another 180 turn. You’re the one who bitches about Asian girls having all the fun dating white guys while Asian guys like you can’t have the same fun. That’s more remorse than how an obese person feels after wolfing down an extra large pizza in one sitting.

I’m sure you know most commentators here would rather be anonymous and not meet anyone who calls them out for reasons of being dishonest. Some of the guys who come here to post could be one of those unattractive Asian men that I’m always ranting about or even worse, just dregs of society such as Siggy.

Regarding Urb, I’m not even sure if he is geniune about what he said in his podcast. He calls himself an Alpha Asian Male, which is a meaningless term, and a low class one if you ask me. It’s like me calling myself Asian top dog. And if he was an Alpha guy, why would he be hesistant in meeting with me? He then says he’s not into PUA. And now, he says he wants or wanted to give money to PUA as charity and I’m surprised none of you guys labeled him as a PUA marketeer.

Bad analogy. Again, my general outline is this. All I said was that Asian women have a lot more leverage in America and generally look down on their own men when they become acculturated. Most Asian men are generally unpopular with non-Asian women and they should perhaps abandoned their hopes in landing one. Asians would be better off not associating themselves with the mainstream for these reasons above, because it only causes riffs and tensions between the sexes in our community.
