Podcast with Ben and James on Fatherhood

Our latest podcast features Ben from Conceived and Composed and James from Alpha-Asian.  In this latest installment, we talk about what it’s like to be a dad.  You’ll hear how new dads Ben and James live today, what they were thinking before they had kids, and what life lessons they hope to impart to their kids.  Download it here, or listen to it below. It’s 36 minutes and 33 MBs (yes, GarageBand f#$ed up again and I had to do the circular route which expanded the size. Apple is taking it out on the Asian male).

Let me begin by saying that this was one of my favorite podcasts to date.  I have to apologize because I had been out the night before with friends we met through the Gun’s activities, and I had just woken up a short while before.  (Yes, fatherhood is a hard job.)  I messed up the date–we recorded on the 25th, not the 24th–I think my voice cracked several times, and I had more uhs and ohs than the Balloon Boy’s parents. That being said, it IS one of my favorite podcasts.  Tune in to hear the one piece of advice that Alpha-Asian would give to prospective dads.  Hear how Ben manages culture in with his half-Korean/half-Chinese son.

We talked briefly after the recorded section, and I think there’s lots of potential in the idea of dads talking about stuff in general.  If you have any advice, questions, or remarks, sound off like a WOWO.

Same here :) . Look forward to doing more in the future!

Thanks Ben and James! It was a great conversation, and I definitely look forward to having this again. This one isn’t going to get 200 comments, but people are definitely listening!

  4. gar says:

Nice! I’ll definitely be giving this podcast a listen.

  5. Jeff says:

Nice podcast. Very astute observation about child care changing from physical to mental around age 10 or 11. I have three kids from 11 to 17, and I have to agree with that. With teenagers, you have to deal with phone calls like “Dad, the paramedics want to talk to you!” and with boyfriends, girlfriends, talks about sex, defiance, and rebelliousness. It is as you mentioned, very stressful.

    Jeff and Gar,

Glad you’re liking it! We’ve gotta get you guys on the podcast too. I know nothing about teenagers, Jeff, so I’ll defer to your wisdom. Although I see my stressed out coworkers all the time, so I can only imagine what it must be like. :)

Jaewhan, BenII, Alpha Asian- Thanks guys for an awesome podcast. As an unmarried, childless man, I found this discussion quite fascinating. Seems to me that having someone you love and having kids make you guys just mellow out. Not in a bad way, but more like taking everything in stride, being less self-centered and not letting the little stuff get to you. Or maybe you guys are just that way to begin with. Makes me kinda envy and pity you a little at the same time. Makes we want kids now, and not want kids ever. If that makes any sense. I really should just focus on the pile of work sitting on my desk right now.

  8. AF/AM couple says:

Great podcast, you guys! My husband and I have a two-year-old son, so it’s great to hear perspectives from new (and semi-new) parents. Next time you want to include moms in the podcast, I’d love to join.

  9. jaehwan says:

    Thanks, Leon and AF/AM!

If you want to do a mommy podcast (and know other mommies who would participate), I’m ALL for it!!! Please let me know. That would be a great podcast to share!
