Gary Coleman, RIP

Gary Coleman

Gary Coleman has died at age 42.

I don’t think anyone who grew up in the 80′s will ever forget the character of Arnold from Diff’rent Strokes.  Back in the day, this was the show to watch.  It was just a sit-com, of course, but it was wonderful how this show portrayed African American and White American characters coming together and living under one roof.  I was young and not cognizant of racial relations back in those days, but I can imagine how seeing the Drummond family helped families of the 80′s get used to seeing people of different races together.  What was also great about this show was how they presented these relationships without being stereotypical, each side learning from the other.

“Whutchoo talking about Willis” is one of those lines that will never go away for those of us who watched all the good times and bad.  Gary was truly the star of the show.  Rest in peace, Gary.
