After those shenanigans by Anderson Silva last week, I’m betting that many MMA fans will be turning in to Strikeforce tomorrow (Saturday) night. Strikeforce pays their fighters well. I don’t know if they hold events often enough to build a following, but if you want to see superior martial arts, tune in tomorrow night.
Tomorrow’s event should be awesome. Dan Henderson will be fighting, as will Gegard Mousasi. Both are impressive fighters, and I expect both to win. Henderson’s fight should be relatively easy. Mousasi is a beast who would give Lyoto a run for his money. He’s a knockout master. (Sorry Lyoto…you do know that I’m your biggest fan.)
Plus, Shinya Aoki will be fighting. The UFC usually takes Japanese fighters who are past their prime (Gomi, Uno, etc.), but in this case, Aoki is in the prime of his career. I like the guy because he’s brash, talented, and goofy (check out the glasses above). I believe he will win, although it will be interesting to see since he has nothing in his arsenal except submissions. As the link above mentions, it should be interesting to see whether a “one dimensional fighter” can dominate a well rounded fighter like Melendez.
I often talk about the UFC, and few people see the event because of the $50 price tag. Strikeforce is FREE. Saturday night at 9 pm on CBS. Check it out!

Dudes, I miscalled this one like never before. 0 for 3. Henderson, Mousasi, and Aoki ALL lost. Mousasi had no defense against Lawal’s takedowns. Lawal was taking him down at will. Honestly, I thought it was pathetic. Unexpected too, given the fact that Mousasi had beaten Babalu Sobral.
Aoki looked terrible. The commentators said that he hadn’t trained in a cage, and it showed. He spent the entire time falling back and trying to pull guard. I have no idea what he was thinking. He should’ve known that cages favor wrestlers over jujitsu fighters.
Jake Shields was the big surprise. I was shocked by how he dominated Henderson. Unlike Mousasi and Aoki, I actually thought Henderson fought well, but Jake Shields gave him more than he could handle.
The unplanned fight at the end was stupid. Someone should be fined for that.
I think you’re jinxing these fights. Get out of the prediction business now! Ha.
BTW, did anyone know Cung Le lost his last fight? Damn, all these Asian fighters suck.
Haha! Yes, I saw that Cung Le fight. He got hit with a lucky shot. He needs to do something to avenge that–if Strikeforce is still in business after that pathetic brawl.
