The Male Brain

Continuing Happy Week:

From the front page of CNN.com, Louann Brizendine, whom I’ve quoted before, writes:

Perhaps the biggest difference between the male and female brain is that men have a sexual pursuit area that is 2.5 times larger than the one in the female brain. Not only that, but beginning in their teens, they produce 200 to 250 percent more testosterone than they did during pre-adolescence.

So that’s why there’s no female PUA.  This MD feminist probably would’ve been blasted off the 44s, but I’m glad she has written something about what seems obvious to many of us who work with lots of kids and adults.  Here’s another interesting comment:

A man in hot pursuit of a mate doesn’t even remotely resemble a devoted, doting daddy. But that’s what his future holds. When his mate becomes pregnant, she’ll emit pheromones that will waft into his nostrils, stimulating his brain to make more of a hormone called prolactin. Her pheromones will also cause his testosterone production to drop by 30 percent.

Maybe that’s why men seem so non-aggressive immediately after having kids.  That and the lack of sleep.

Someone is explaining men.  This is good news.  Happy Happy Week!

Differences between men and women? Wow, who knew?! I cannot stand people who think sex is solely a mental construct. Those people don’t have kids and don’t have pets. Men and women think differently because of their biochemistry. Testosterone and estrogen affect the plasticity of the brain.

I think my baby girl has muted my aggressive tendencies. Hard to stay angry when I look at that face :)

It’s crazy how people sometimes take theories and apply them as facts. Especially when it comes to human behavior, it’s useless to theorize without presenting empirical facts.

It’s amazing what kids can do to you!
