Chang-Rae Lee on the Census

Fill out your census form!

And check out the video above. Chang-Rae Lee didn’t feel his racial difference until he reached adolescence and started dating. I wonder what he’d have to say about all our discussions. Lee made Complex Magazine‘s list of IR couples for Asian men.

Secrets of the Universe/FlashForward 2

(FlashForward Spoiler below)

I’ve been ill for the past few days, stuck at home yesterday.  The good news is that we just got full cable.  Wow.  I never understood how people could watch 4-7 hours of TV a day, but with the Food Channel, Spike, and Versus, it’s now quite clear to me.  Ultimate Fighting, WEC, or Iron Chef every night?  It doesn’t get better than that.  If I were to convert to Christianity, I imagine Heaven would be something like this, with a perpetual beer in my hand.  (Gomi is fighting tonight at 5 pm Pacific for those who have Spike TV.  It’s free.)  Other people can play their harps and sit on clouds; me, I’ll take my cable and beer.

Random news

by Michelle Wie

by Michelle Wie

1. Did anyone know that golfer Michelle Wie is also an artist?  Check it here.  Apparently, she’s disturbed:  :)

Bloody skulls, a robot mauling a teddy bear, a schoolgirl wearing a plaid skirt and a gas mask. The golfer Michelle Wie looked up from her artwork and said with a laugh, “It’s like drawings you do in fifth grade and someone says, ‘You need help.’ ”

2. Jaime Escalante, the inspiration behind the teacher in Stand and Deliver, died Tuesday of cancer.  If you haven’t seen the movie of his life, do.  It’s pretty amazing what one teacher’s passion can do for a roomful of students.

Fill in Our Future

Just got an e-mail from Courtney at Fill in Our Future.  As you all know, the deadline for the census count is April 1st.  Probably all of you have already received your form.   If you haven’t done so already, fill it out and send it in.  I was at a presentation last week where a census rep went through everything that this form represents.  Not only does it determine how much federal funding we get in our respective communities, but it also determines how much representation, i.e. House representatives, we get in the federal government as well.  It really does mean that you will be counted.

The Long and Short of It

Keni Styles, from SF Gate

Keni Styles, from SF Gate

Now that we’re completed Happy Week, let’s talk about penis size.

I saw this column by Jeff Yang where he talks about the Asian male penis stereotypes, and then goes on to talk about Keni Styles, whom Minority Militant first noticed a while back.  Thanks also to Efren who posted on Jeff’s article.  According to everyone, Keni Styles, a Thai-British 28 year old, is mainstream porn’s first big Asian male star.  Jeff started off his article by mentioning the Asian male stereotypes for lack of size, and Efren talks about how he feels that Asian American men just don’t participate when there’s a call to action.  You can see Jeff’s full interview here.

Bounce Back

This is my last Happy Week post.

My reason for declaring Happy Week was the book above, Bounce Back by John Calipari.  As you sports fans know, Calipari is the Kentucky coach who was fired from the Nets a while back.  He also suffered a bruising defeat while coaching the Memphis Tigers a few years back.  As Kentucky is currently the top seeded team, Calipari clearly bounced back.  I began reading his book before March madness though.

The Definitive History of Asian Men Dating Outside their Race

So what do you all think of the new look?  As some of you know, something batty happened with my WordPress, and the old theme was one of the casualties from the fall.  The new theme, which I absolutely LOVE (and will try to tweak if you e-mail suggestions), was designed by Eyoung.  Thanks, Eyoung for your awesome theme.

Touch

The video above made me smile. It’s simple and sensual. I think the reason it appeals to me is that the protagonist is seeking to express her inner beauty through her outer appearance and actions.  I love how she works to be in this world.

This short movie also has the Japanese bad guy from Karate Kid II–Yuji Okumoto.  That in itself makes it view-worthy.

Note to Yuji: Dude, I think you were way cooler than Daniel-san in that movie, and Kumiko should’ve gone for you instead.  Plus–you could’ve kicked the shit out of Ralph in a real fight, crane kick or touristy drum trick notwithstanding.  Everyone knows that.

The Male Brain

Louann Brizendine

Louann Brizendine

Continuing Happy Week:

From the front page of CNN.com, Louann Brizendine, whom I’ve quoted before, writes:

Perhaps the biggest difference between the male and female brain is that men have a sexual pursuit area that is 2.5 times larger than the one in the female brain. Not only that, but beginning in their teens, they produce 200 to 250 percent more testosterone than they did during pre-adolescence.

So that’s why there’s no female PUA.  This MD feminist probably would’ve been blasted off the 44s, but I’m glad she has written something about what seems obvious to many of us who work with lots of kids and adults.  Here’s another interesting comment:

Sam Geunjin Kang and M-Flo

Continuing Happy Week, I hope the video above (produced by Wong Fu Productions) makes you smile. If it does, please share why.

The video below shows what the Japanese have done with rap/hip-hop. It’s a catchy tune:

Happy Happy Week!
