I haven’t caught this, but many people I know have. There have been 3,900 deaths in the U.S. so far. Protect yourself. Wash your hands often, especially if you have kids. And if you have any questions regarding the current state of this epidemic, check out the CDC website here.

Too bad there’s a shortage of vaccines, or so I hear. Good ol’ rationing for ya.
The CDC estimates that 36,000 people die in the US alone each year from the H3N2 type A seasonal flu. It also estimates that 250,000 – 500,000 people die worldwide from the flu each year. So far, depending on who you cite, the reported worldwide confirmed deaths of H1N1 is below 8,000. They are also estimating that it kills less than 1% of infected individuals; on par with the regular seasonal flu. On the bright side, the Avian flu killed 60% of confirmed cases, although that was a very small outbreak. Despite that outbreak being far more deadly, the media coverage of H1N1 is very compelling. It makes it sound like it’s the next big killer. More people die each year from drunk driving, smoking associated diseases, and heart related illness than the flu. I’m not saying you can take a vaccine for those things, but shouldn’t we keep this in perspective? When the news is making you panic, take it with a grain of salt.
Good point.
I know several people who have been sick with H1N1, and all of them are still living. I’m still washing my hands more often though.
