My paternal grandfather passed away two weeks ago. It has been a very hard loss for me. My Yeh-Yeh was the central male father figure in my life, and I’m still stunned that he is gone. Up until his passing, I was still talking to him at least once every week, and he was in perfect health until the very end. These days I have moments of clarity, but each day so far has also brought long bouts of intense sadness.
As many of you know, I was in New York for all of last week for his funeral. I apologize to everyone whom I was supposed to see but didn’t. There will be more time when I go back again. Thank you to everyone who has extended his or her condolences. It means a lot to me.
New entries will hopefully be up and running again in the next day or so. Thank you so much to everyone who has sent news items and stuff. I’m also catching up on the excellent conversations. You guys and gals are the best.

So Sorry to hear about the passing of your Grandfather Byron, and especially as he was the central male father figure in your life. You and your family have my sincere best wishes and my deepest sympathy.
Thus spoke Claudius the King to Prince Hamlet regarding the death of his father.
“Tis sweet and commendable in your nature, Hamlet, to give these mourning duties to your father: But, you must know, your father lost a father; That father lost, lost his, and the survivor bound in filial obligation for some term to do obsequious sorrow…”
