Hines Ward uses his fame to help biracials

Lots of inspiring things going on in the world today.  Hines Ward, the 2006 Superbowl MVP, is using his celebrity to help the cause of biracial children in South Korea.  Ward is half black and half Korean, and he was raised by his Korean mother in the United States.   In the article, he talks about his own experiences as a biracial child:

““It was hard for me to find my identity,” Ward said. “The black kids didn’t want to hang out with me because I had a Korean mom. The white kids didn’t want to hang out with me because I was black. The Korean kids didn’t want to hang out with me because I was black. It was hard to find friends growing up. And then once I got involved in sports, color didn’t matter.””

I think it’s inspiring when celebrities tell their stories and use them as a way of giving back.  What makes Ward’s story especially cool is the fact that few others have taken up this cause.  Plus, he’s doing it in a way that gives dignity to both American and Korean culture.
