We hit our Sam Yoon goal!

Thanks to Asianguy, TMM, and uRB4N who helped bigWOWO achieve its goal of raising $250 for Sam Yoon.  This was the first goal that we as a website have set, and we did it!  Special thanks to uRB4N who contributed over 85% of the funds!  Thanks to everyone here who publicized for Sam, to everyone who discussed Sam, and to everyone who has kept this website going strong.  The vast majority of us are from out of state, and I’m so happy that we were able to help Sam in his campaign.

I strongly strongly believe that we need more powerful and intelligent Asian Americans in leadership positions.  Having men and women who are decisive, creative, generous, understanding, and courageous in visible positions of power raises all boats–it helps us all.  It gives us something to aspire to, and it demonstrates that we as a community can support our community in times of need.  I especially appreciate Sam’s contribution because he doesn’t shy away from the racial issues we face.  He takes them head on, which is what a responsible leader does.

Let me just say something in regards to IR, the most popular topic in the AA blogosphere.  Strong and decisive leaders follow an alpha strategy.  They influence the world with their decisions, which are hopefully based on careful consideration and fearless risk taking.    It’s not about just approaching women with the right lines–”who lies more, men or women?”–but about being a strong leader who can take charge and contribute back to society.  With alphas, as opposed to betas, it’s not about how one can protect oneself from the disparity, but about what one can achieve with the life one has been given.  It’s about growing as a person and contributing to the people around you.

Allow me to quote myself from a recent e-mail exchange about the subject of IR and Asian men: “When we support people like Sam Yoon or Frank Chin, we support alpha Asian males, men who are taking a leadership role.  It inspires more men to be alphas.  Leaders.  Creators.  This means that men will have substance rather than just talk.  It raises both the image and aspirations of Asian men as a group.”

We set a goal and achieved it.  Thank you thank you thank you.  This is a proud moment for all of us.

Things may be looking good for Yoon as he had the strongest performance of the four men in the last debate, and as Menino is dealing with some issues over deleted e-mails.  With a strong showing and TV ads, I believe Yoon can do it.

I filed this under IR, by the way. It’s the most un-IR IR post I have. But I think it works…

    Very inspirational post, Jaewhan.

    Thanks, kobukson!

I really want to contribute, but my name appeared in a google search on watchdog.net and the Huffington posts . I am rather hesitant to throw money at a politician if my address and amount donated to what party/candidate is searchable. They both have the wrong amounts, but was floor when someone knew the ball park amount I contributed.

This is the first time I’ve contributed to anything remotely Asian America related out of my charity budget. I think Sam should thank Byron for that.

Personally, I have no faith in Asian America but hey, I could be wrong.

Thanks, urB4N! I’m honored to be involved in the first time you’ve done this.

I’ve got faith in Asian America. It’s just that our strategy almost has to be different from other communities. The election is just two days away!
