Oops...sorry, Ed, aggressive spam filter.

I agree with you. I guess my question is that even though the UFC is a sport rather than a martial art, the Gracies still advertise by talking about all their challenges and fights. They still talk badly about other martial arts in their marketing (although I agree it's unlikely they do the same during their training--and they definitely stopped talking smack during the UFC itself.)

Also, I don't know enough to verify/confirm this, but do you think it could be a cultural thing? Some cultures may be more verbal/aggressive than others.

Though most do make this mistake but people should know the difference between martial arts and UFC.

They are mutually exclusive and have nothing to do with each other.

UFC is a combative sport and entertainment.

Martial arts is something else of it's own.

I know that the popular media likes to confuse the both and make it sound like the same and but it isn't.

I respect in Royce Gracie as a person, he has a good character and unlike everyone who probably loves him because he entered UFC and dominated opponents.

He actually used the money he earned to build a school so that he could continue teach people the right way.

I just finished reading a book about the UFC, and I'm thinking that maybe this advertising is a vestige of the old days when they sold the blood and gore. Back then, they were trying to tell the world that they were a bunch of bad boys. Maybe the advertising just hasn't yet caught up with the actual content.

My son LOVED the class. He was too young to get on the mat, but he just sat on the side pretending he was doing karate. He didn't want to leave when it was time to go!

Aw. SO cute that question - "What about your goldfish?"

I do tend to "trust" more the websites with better presentation when I do online shopping. They just look more legit and less likely to rip me off if they seem to have invested in an IT professional! :-D

I guess it goes with the whole marketing self - and why employers will hire less qualified but better put-together candidate over more qualified but slobbily dressed (or overweight or not as good-looking or whatever) candidate.

What did your son think about it? LN was not impressed with her "ninja" class - and I wondered if it was a gender thing? (Although, she ended up NOT wanting to take ballet and took up soccer... SOOOO Korean of her.)
