Musts and Shoulds

As mentioned in yesterday’s podcast, we’re going to enter a discussion on strategy, motivation, and getting things done.  We’ll probably be posting stuff like this throughout August.  Alpha Asian, and maybe others, will be joining in next week (Edit: See AlphaAsian’s post here), and we’ll be strategizing and offering ways to help our readers achieve things.  These pieces of advice could be applied to activism, career, or anything that you’re trying to achieve.

There are a few reasons why I’m going this route.

1. With two kids, I’m a different person.  The old ways of doing things by getting up when I felt like it will no longer work.  My kids own me–and I think that’s probably normal. :)   With less time, I need to strategize and prioritize, or else nothing will get done.

2. I think we all need to crank up the energy when it comes to activism.  We need to be proactive, and we need to motivate one another.  Every activist, no matter where he or she falls on the hierarchy, needs to have a plan to get from point A to point B, and we all need to BELIEVE.  Otherwise, why bother?

3. We need to get certain things done in life.  I know so many people who live life as spectators or who get caught up in activities that don’t help them.  We need to set our standards higher.

Above is a clip by Tony Robbins, who talks about differences in “musts” and “shoulds.”  I went through the exercise today of listing my own “musts” and “shoulds.”  “Life will pay whatever price you ask of it.”  I love it!  What are your “musts?”

Yeah Tony Robbins brings up a lot of good points in this vid. If you want a specific answer, then you have to ask a specific question. Most people aren’t specific about what they want, so they get what everybody else gets in life.

Awesome, Alpha! I added a link to the original blog post.

What I like best about your posts is that you’ve done it. Written a book. Become a profitable consultant. Built your body the way you want it. I think many times we sell ourselves short. If we set super high standards, we never achieve them, but if we set no goals at all and refuse to put them into words, we achieve nothing.

Just to encourage people to visit your blog, here is a great quote:

“How can someone who is smart and talented not accomplish anything? Many times, people don’t succeed in accomplishing anything, because THEY DON’T FOCUS.”

It’s not always about talent; it’s about focus and work.

So when are you guys going to have your next post and what will be the specific topic? I can post something dependent if I know or have something to say on it.
