I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see this in the UFC. I’ll bet you never knew that the Mountain Pose could be the Mountain Stance!
Yoga vs. Sumo would be pretty cool too.

Downward Facing Dog is an awesome fighting style! So is Child’s Pose.
And that guy in the video has incredible flexibility.
He’s amazing, right. If I could get that flexible, I’d do it. I think flexibility is underestimated in the whole grand scheme of athleticism.
By the way, is there any correlation between Corpse Pose and Drunken Monkey?
It is never too late to start yoga. Personally, I like Iyengar Yoga. Aligning your body properly helps with so many physical ailment.
I’ve told my mom about yoga for years and she would complain that it was sto strenuous on one body part or another. That was until she had a lobectomy to remove cancer in one of her lobes in her lungs. She had a hard time rebuilding up lung capacity. I told her about yoga again and she dismissed me. While we were shopping, a woman noticed she was having a hard time breathing and sat down with her while she caught her breath and told her about yoga. This woman was also an RN, so of course my mother listened to her. Now my mom’s lung capacity is greater than it was before her surgery. The remaining lobes filled in the cavity left by the operation.
She also doesn’t complain about sore neck/back as often because she built up her core muscles.
Yoga is one of the best ways for you to discover just how out of shape you are. I remember when I first started I almost put myself in the hospital.
Well Leon,
I hope you’ve had better experience since. The nice thing about yoga is you can modify poses and gradually you can build up strength and flexibility.
It took me about four months to be able to do parivrtta parsvakonasana, but when I finally was able to achieve the pose, I felt a pop under my right shoulder blade and for the first time in years the tender spot between my shoulder blades released all this tension and it felt so good!!!
I like Iyengar yoga too.
I did yoga with a DVD yesterday. I hadn’t been upside down in a couple of years. Downward Facing Dog made me feel a little queasy, but I suppose it’s probably good for my health.
That’s a pretty amazing story about your mom, AG.
I should also mention, she had stage 1B bronchoalveolar carcinoma, which is more likly to occur in Asian who did not smoke.
There is also correlation between bronchoalveolar carcinoma and female replacement hormone therapy, so tell all your moms and aunts who took HRT’s to get an X-ray. IT is the only method of early detection. Bronchoalveolar carcinoma is 90% fatal because most people do not find out about it until it is too late (stage four when most of your lungs are covered with it.) You cannot treat it with radiation or chemotherapay. The only thing you can do is cut it out.
