I wanted to give you all the heads up that the summer of activist partying is about to start for me. For those who followed my stuff on the 44s, you may be remember that a few months before this time last year, I was busy getting on my knees and begging for funds to support the Frank Chin Event, which turned out to be one of the greatest Asian American events in Portland’s history. My knees were sore from begging so much. The blog posts didn’t exactly stop, but they slowed down to a crawl.
This year we’re starting a bit later, and there are more “events” than last year. The activities may not be as stressful as last year’s since:
a) I’m not the lead person on any of this year’s events
b) Our overhead on all the events is a LOT LOT less (Thank, goodness. If I had to go another year of wealthy Asian American older men from Portland who talk big and then end up giving nothing, I’d go crazy.)
I will probably describe my 2009 activist events in greater detail soon. In the meantime, they are:
1. The Thymos Book Project (see here for now)
2. The Pageant (More on this later)
3. The Athletic Event (not really activist, but a big event nevertheless)
Along the way, maybe I can also raise some money for Sam Yoon.
It may be more manageable than last year. Maybe. It could also be busier: there is a greater diversity of events than last year, plus I have one more child than I had last year. So I don’t know where this will lead me in terms of workload. As for bigWOWO, I know I still want to do the Ethnic Literature podcast, plus I owe a few blog posts on various topics. Hopefully I can get those out. If I do slow down, don’t hesitate to drop me an e-mail. For you regulars, if there is a topic you’d like to discuss and can’t wait for me, just send me an e-mail and I’ll post it up.
