I watch communitychannel (Natalie Tran) on YouTube from time to time. ALL of her stuff is funny (“It’s porno music slash comments time”), but this one was f$%ing hilarious. I remember one message board battle I had last year where someone called me Gollum. I had no idea who Gollum was, and I still have no idea. Someone also once referenced the cherry chapstick song, and I didn’t get it until a month later. Educate your children with pop culture, or they too won’t get the cultural references.

OMG, B, you don’t know who Gollum who is? I know you Oregonians don’t own TV’s and chain yourselves to trees to prevent loggers from working, but Lord of the Rings is not just a movie trilogy. It’s a classic book trilogy.
So you can read it, if movies aren’t your thing.
OK, She’s awesome! Thanks for the uplifting end to my day!
Are you calling me a Gollum?
Okay, I’m going to have to check out the book.
Wasabi!
Actually, I don’t always think my students, who claim to be “hip,” actually get any of my movie references.
My reasoning? 1. I have a funny Asian accent (not true) 2. I’m old (not necessarily true) 3. They are like little lost children wandering in and out conversations (ding ding ding)
Watch TV & movies and become a corporate tool? FUCK THAT SHIT YOU CHUMPASS!!
Anyways, did you see “Slanted Screen” on PBS? I saw it a couple nights ago. It was a documentary about the absence of Asian males in the media and how the few portrayals of Asian men are of some negative stereotype. You know…. the same shit ya’ll been talking about in the internet. Its pretty good. I liked it. All the well known Asian-Am celebs were there (the few that there are). And even yo daddy, Frank Chin, was on there talking up some shit. You outta be like yo daddy, so you wouldn’t be such a lil biotch LOL
OctaMoron,
It was an ironic title. Not meant to be serious. As in, “I myself don’t know who Gollum is.”
No wonder you’re always hanging on the balls of PUAs.
im so attracted to girls with the british accent. almost worth the long distance charges. drools~~~
It’s Australian, dude.
right then, british colony, much love; long distance charges still apply.
