Obama does have very good media awareness, but it looks like this won't get enough news attention to provoke an official response. There are a lot of things to work on (8 years to undo) and he has to look at where he can make the greatest difference and the likelihood of a achieving a certain goal. Basically he is not going to use his political capital on this issue when it can used on other issues where he has a better chance at success.
