So let me get this straight–Dan Choi is an Iraq veteran, he graduated from West Point, he’s fluent in Arabic, he actually wants to be deployed, and yet they’re firing him only because he happens to be attracted to men? Sounds like a big ol’ waste of my taxpayer money to me. Sounds like a big ol’ waste of human resources by the American military. I hope Obama does something about this ridiculousness.

It is unlikely that Obama will address this until his second term.
There are a lot of things to work on (8 years to undo) and he has to look at where he can make the greatest difference and the likelihood of a achieving a certain goal.
Basically he is not going to use his political capital on this issue when it can used on other issues where he has a better chance at success.
Lingyai,
I hate to say it, but I agree with you. Most likely he won’t use his political capital on this issue. I still hope he will though. Careers and lives are at stake. It must feel extremely isolating to be in a situation where you can’t reveal your true self to people for whom you’ve mutually pledged to place your life in danger.
I agree with you guys.
Obama does have very good media awareness, but it looks like this won’t get enough news attention to provoke an official response. But I have a feeling before Obama leaves, he’s going to try to make a strong move for the gay community.
