Rummy
Thanks to Micah who sent this article.
It scares the hell out of me whenever I write posts that contain the tags “religion” and “politics” together. But thanks to eight years of Bush, I get the opportunity to post such things over and over. In the latest news, it appears that Donald Rumsfeld, the Defense Secretary of the United States during the Iraqi invasion, used to “curry favor” with President George W. Bush by writing “militaristic passages from the Bible on the cover pages of White House intelligence documents.” For example:
Another of the images showed US troops trudging through the desert under a passage from Isaiah: “Their arrows are sharp, all their bows are strung; their horses’ hoofs seem like flint, their chariot wheels are like a whirlwind.”
A Bible Thumper with his finger on the trigger, capable of creating false justifications for war (which happened), killing thousands (which also happened), and toppling governments (which also happened). All in the name of the so-called “Christian” religion. What is this world coming to? And Bible Thumpers like James Dobson are saying that we should fear Islam? I think I know whom I need to fear.

Haha, but since this all about bible thumpers, I suppose that I must play the role of “Devil’s Advocate.” Would it have been equally distasteful to you if it had been two existentialists quoting Emerson? How about two Atheists quoting Dawkins? If two officers of the government share a common worldview, (religious or otherwise) the question is, can they reference said worldview one to the other?
not to split hairs, but none of the references you made were done “in the name of the so-called christian religion”. To my knowledge, Bush never said “The lord told me to bomb iraq today…”
Haha..King, are you “Devil’s Advocate” or “God’s Advocate.” Because according to some, my ideas make me the Devil.
I think I’m cool with people referencing common beliefs, but things become scary when there’s a militant worldview underneath those beliefs. Especially when it’s (from this blogger’s perspective, anyway)…irrational.
Robert,
See here. Just because he was president doesn’t mean he’s not delusional.
ok, all I can say is “Wow” lol!
What a bunch of nut-jobs, those guys.
“God’s Advocate?” Hey, can I use that as my official title!!????
Don’t get me wrong though, I am as paranoid and freaked out about the implications Church in bed with the State as anybody… perhaps even more so. But since I’m aware of that fear, I am trying to correct for it when making judgements. However, I am much more concerned about the implications of the extreme Islamist Taliban’s invasion of the moderately (but nuclear armed) Islamic Pakistan than I am about Neocons at the moment.
King: in the spirit of the topic: “Amen” to that! lol!
King,
Too bad the 44s retired. You could’ve called yourself “GodForADay.” It’s good to be King, but it’s even better to be God.
