I just saw this a couple of days ago and I have to defend Jackie Chan here. I think he is right on this. He probably understands China and Chinese culture more than most people. My understanding of “Freedom” and “Democracy” now is very different from 20 years ago when I just came to this country. America is not “free” at all. A “free” and “democratic” society has to come with strong, independent, responsible and mature people, rule of law and a lot of other things. Chinese culture and society lack most of those elements needed for a “free” society.

China is a very “young” country; she hasn’t fully grown up yet. Like a kid, before she turns into an adult, she has to be controlled and can’t have all the freedoms she wants.

No, no and NO! Chinese shouldnt be controlled, we should be let free to have as many babies as we want, make as much money as we can, and burst out of PRC borders to overrun the entire world with our glorious golden hordes to take over the world and make it Chinese!!! Then we can expand into space and the moon then Mars! We shall rule heaven and earth!!!

You know, I think when the Iron Curtain fell, the Euro-communist nations also went through a phase of chaos and people called for more control, to have freedom reined in.

Chan said the problem with Chinese youth is that “they like other people’s things. They don’t like their own things.” Young people need to spend more time developing their own style, he added.

The action hero complained that Chinese goods still have too many quality problems. He became emotional when discussing contaminated milk powder that sickened tens of thousands of Chinese babies in the past year.

Speaking fast with his voice rising, Chan said, “If I need to buy a TV, I’ll definitely buy a Japanese TV. A Chinese TV might explode.”

Some here might applauded his thought on Chinese youth.

In China the TV comment might actually get scrutiny from the gov’t as he is bashing Chinese companies… maybe they should restrict his freedom a bit…
