Lyoto Machida Gets Title Shot!

In Asian American (Asian Brazilian?) sports news, Lyoto Machida is FINALLY getting a title shot in the UFC.  Machida is an amazing fighter.  As Joe Rogan described him, he is the most elusive fighter in UFC history.  He somehow manages to get hit only a few times per fight, if he gets hit at all.  If you think about the level of competition in the UFC, it’s pretty amazing that he’s able to do this.  It’s pretty amazing that anyone can do this.

There have been some discussions among fans on whether Machida is exciting enough to be a champion, but I agree with his supporters–I find it extremely exciting how he turns fighting into a complete science.  He keeps it light and loose, and it’s very exciting to watch.  Machida’s fighting is so technical that the champion Rashad Evans is actually the underdog.  People know that Machida is the real deal; they know he’s going to destroy Rashad.  Plus, it’s always good to see a different style.  Most fighters use the circular kicks of Muay Thai–it’s nice to see someone who throws straight.

In other Asian UFC news, Yushin Okami will be fighting on the same card.  Zzzz…  I’ll be bringing my pillow to sleep and will ask a friend to wake me up when they announce the decision.

  1. I was soo hoping for this. Thanks for the heads-up. Since this is a title fight, I’m gonna have to say Machida, TKO, 4th round.

    Ricky Hatton V. Pac-Man

Pacquiao, by KO, 10th Round, as Hatton gases and swings wildly.

Although I can watch boxing, wrestling, Taekwondo, etc., I could never stomach UFC fights – maybe it’s not as “clinical” and too “realistic”.

I remember, in the 70′s, there was a Korean boxer who kept on going down – yes, he got hit a LOT – but kept on standing up, I believe for his mother…? He ended up winning and getting the championship and became instant national hero. (sorry, I digressed…)

    TMM,

I think Rashad Evans is highly overrated. He was lucky with Liddell–Rampage broke Liddell’s confidence with that fast knockout–and everything else has been kind of boring. I think Rampage would beat him, and I’m very confident Machida will knock him out.
