Jaehwan's Last Lap at the 44s

This was my recent blog at the Fighting 44s.  I love the site, but I’ve realized that my time is up.  Over the next week or so, I’ll try to post some articles up there (and here too).

Everyone who has ever been involved in collaborative or competitive work knows that neither sprints nor marathons last forever. There’s a time to begin, a time to excel, and a time to stop. After being a member here for five years and working as a blogger for perhaps the last year and a half at the 3rd Most Dangerous Job in the Asian American Blogosphere, my time has come. It’s time for me to meander to a different pasture. My blogging career at the Fighting 44s will be over at the end of this month.

I can’t tell you how much I’ve enjoyed my time here. This job and site have meant more to me than I could have ever imagined when I first signed up under the username “jaehwan.” (And maybe I’ll tell you all how I picked that name in an upcoming post. Maybe.) I’ve met some truly awesome individuals through this site, and I am thankful that this site became what is was through the people who made up the community here. Never in the history of the web has any site assembled such great Asian American brainpower and passion. Never in history has an Asian American site possessed so much fervor, so much knowledge. I am so happy that I came upon this site. I hope to stay in touch with everyone.

My reason for stepping down is the same reason why many others have cut down their activity: I’m getting older, and I’m moving on to different things. I blogged about my status as a “Graying 44″, and after thinking about it, with help from Lopan, Dialectic, Alpha, Larry, and Ernie from 8A, I realized that I’ve simply moved on to a different stage of life, a realization that I discussed at length in my “graying” blog post. I’m no longer as relevant here. This isn’t to say that the prior stage is better or worse; it’s just a different stage, valuable on its own merits.

As Michael Jordan said (not that I’m Michael Jordan, but I like his words), I’m 85% certain of my retirement. I may come back sometime in the future if the opportunity is right and D and Lopes are cool with it, but I’m pretty certain I’m done. I’ll just be a spectator here. I’ll still be on the web, posting on a variety of topics, not just Asian American stuff, at my personal site bigWOWO and my part-time gig at RiceDaddies.

I’ve always believed that when you do something, you should be the best you can be; and when you step away from something, you should step away while at the top of your game. With that idea in mind, I will try to post until the end of the month and leave on a good note.

44s forever.

Fondly,
jaehwan

Crazy, right? I’m trying to sprint this week so I can help them close down well. I myself need to cut down on my blog activities, so it’ll just be WOWO and RiceDaddies from now on.
