Joseph Cao, First Vietnamese American in Congress

Joseph Cao

The news media has me working overtime.

Joseph Cao is the first Vietnamese American person ever to be elected to the U.S. Congress.  He won his seat in a predominantly black district, so maybe we are starting to enter a post-racial era.

  1. I like this guy. Saw an interview with him on CNN over the weekend. He’s a Repub, but he says he’s gonna walk the line along the middle. I’ll take his word for it.

Just saw this in NY Times:

He is only a recent convert to the Republican Party, having been a registered independent for most of his adult life, and has no position — at least not one he cares to share yet — on President-elect Barack Obama’s agenda. His politics seem less a matter of ideology than of low-key temperament and a Jesuit-inspired desire to “help and serve people,” as he put it.

So if he’s a recent convert, maybe he’s a Bloomberg Repub. Hopefully.
