It looks like “Joe the Plumber” just got soaked by the news media. He’s not a licensed plumber, and he owes back taxes–two liens over $1,000. Even if Obama raised his taxes, he probably wouldn’t pay.
This is what I was talking about with Jason here; we’ve got a poor guy who has had his ego challenged and now he says that raising taxes on the wealthy is socialism. Keep in mind that at his present income, the Obama plan would make his life as a single father who struggles to pay his current taxes easier than the McCain plan. He hasn’t even experienced the wealthy life, and even then, there was a video of him yesterday with Diane Sawyer saying that it would be wrong even to raise the taxes on someone making $1 million or $5 million.
In the individualistic world that this obvious die-hard Republican envisions, where does the money from the bailout and other government costs come from? How do we pay off our national debt?
Luckily, according to Sarah Palin, “Government’s got plenty of money” and we don’t have to worry.

Hey, Byron – this is awesome…
Zach,
Funny stuff, isn’t it?

It seems like all the earlier articles on Joe the Plumber weren’t as good as the ones that came out much later in the day.
I didn’t realize that this is what we had talked about, thanks for pointing that out.
If I remember correctly Obama’s tax plan is something more like this: You’d be taxed the same for the first $250,000 of your income. And for everything over that you’d be taxed at a higher rate. So if you’re not making leaps and bounds over $250,000, you won’t be getting taxed too much more anyways.
Jason
Jason,
You actually get taxed on the whole $250k. However, it only goes from 33% to 36%, and as I understand it, you only get taxed if you net over $250k, not gross. (I’m assuming this means he’s also go to change the current tax schedules.)Haha…in either case, it’s not a concern for Joe the Plumber, not now, now next year, not eight years from now!
The official summary of Obama’s tax plan is here. See p. 5.
